Are you tired of people saying you look tired even when you got a full night’s sleep? Do your eyes show the world how over-worked and under-rested you really are?

Whether due to genetics, fatigue, or the natural aging process, under-eye bags and a tired appearance are among the most common cosmetic concerns.

Puffy or swollen eyes can be caused by water retention, stress, allergies, hay fever, hormonal changes, alcohol consumption, or a high sodium intake. Crying doesn’t help either, as the glands around the eyelids that produce tears become inflamed from too much activity. Flying and lack of sleep are some other common contributors.

However, not everyone has the time, the money, or the desire to go under the knife, which is where these minimally-invasive solutions come in.

To understand how under-eye bag treatments work, it helps to know what causes the bags to appear in the first place. There are several factors that can cause someone to have eye bags, and many times, more than one of these factors contribute to eye bags simultaneously. We will discuss three of the most common factors here.

The most common cause of eye bags is a loss of fatty tissue in the upper cheeks, right below the eye bags. This fatty tissue, which resides just below the skin, is present throughout the face. As you age, it breaks down, or “deflates,” in your cheeks at a much faster rate than it does just below your eyes. As a result of this uneven deflation, your eyes are left with elevated or protruding bulges of fat beneath them; these are the eye bags.

Another leading cause of eye bags is a weakening of the orbital septum. The orbital septum is a membrane that “holds” fat under the eye, where it is tucked away from the skin. Normal aging can cause the orbital septum to weaken, and as it does, the fat behind it tends to bulge outward and press on the skin. This bulging of fat causes, or adds to, the appearance of eye bags.

In addition to these causes, some people are genetically predisposed to have extra fat under the eyes; it’s just the way they were born. This, too, is a common cause of eye bags.

Hyaluronic acid-based fillers, such as those in the Juvéderm (Allergan) and Restylane (Galderma) ranges, as well as Belotero (Merz) are worth a shot when your eyes need a scalpel-free lift. The different variations can be used to smooth fine fines, fill under-eye hollows, and camouflage darkness.

Tighter, younger eyes

Over time, you look much older than you are due to the falling eyebrows. With the Ulthera treatment that targets tighter skin, lifting effect is created in the eye and forehead area. Ultherapy aims to increase the production of collagen by the ultrasonic waves. So eyebrows look more raised. The treatment takes 60 minutes, however, results occur only after two or three weeks. Depending on the size of the problems around the eyes, Ulthera can be combined with other lifting systems to increase the effect.

ClearLift laser technology is a non-ablative laser treatment that activates the deeper skin and supports collagen formation and tightens the upper eyelid. As a result of this treatment, Around eyes get tighten and fine lines around eyes decrease.

Another highly effective way to reduce the fine lines and wrinkles that appear when you squint or smile is Botox. This injectable treatment minimizes the muscle contractions that lead to visible wrinkles associated with facial expressions, and results last for three to four months until the muscle movement gradually returns. It can also be used to smooth furrows between the brows and horizontal lines across the forehead, as well as to give the brows a little lift. Minimizing muscle movement in the upper third of the face can have a profound anti-aging effect on the eye area, and can also help to prevent visible wrinkles when the face is at rest. ClearLift gives laser energy to the bottom of the skin surface to treat lines around the eye. The fractional heater stimulates collagens by some minimal damage on the skin, therefore, new collagen produces and the quality of the skin increases, fine lines and wrinkles become thinner. It is also effective in reducing the darkness around the eyes. The treatment with ClearLift is usually scheduled every 7 to 10 days, usually it takes not more than 10 minutes and there is no downtown. In some cases, the result can be observed after the 1st treatment. The best results can be observed between 3 and 6 months.
